The Landscape Design Process
INITIAL PHONE CALL & ON-SITE CONSULTATION
Designing your garden starts with a call to discuss your needs. If I am the right designer for your project, we’ll schedule a 1.5-hour on-site consultation to assess the site, understand your lifestyle and style preferences, discuss ideas and get to know each other. If you choose to move forward with a full design, this meeting sets the foundation for a design proposal and preliminary concept.
Initial Phone Call : Complimentary
On-site Consultation (1.5 hour): $175
THE PROPOSAL
After the initial consultation, I will submit a proposal that outlines the scope of services and associated fees based on the complexity of the project. Design fees for full designs usually range from $1400-$6000. Simpler concept sketches and vignettes for smaller areas range from $500-$1000. I also offer design consultations at a $95/hour rate.
Your acceptance of the proposal leads to the next step of the project-- the site assessment.
SITE SURVEY & ANALYSIS
I will assess the site by measuring, mapping existing plants and features, evaluating lighting and microclimates, and identifying problem areas like drainage, noise, and privacy. This information will form the base map. During our walk-through, we'll discuss your needs, budget, plant preferences and how your home's interior connects to the landscape. These factors will guide space planning, plant selections and material choices.
PRELIMINARY CONCEPT DESIGN
My creative process starts by sketching design ideas and creating photo mood boards based on our initial discussions, your wishlist, the project budget, site & soil conditions, maintenance requirements and other considerations. We will meet to review the preliminary concept/s. This stage is the best time for collaboration, allowing you to provide feedback, explore alternatives, and finalize the design direction together for the layout and planting plan.
FINAL DESIGN & PLANTING PLAN
The final master plan will be prepared based on the feedback gathered from the concept stage. A plant list will be compiled for your reference. Colored sketches of key areas may also be prepared to my discretion to better communicate the design ideas. One round of minor revision is included in your design package.
YOUR COMPLETE DESIGN PACKAGE
Your complete design package will include 2 printed copies & electronic file of the Final Master Plan in color and to scale. You will also receive a detailed plant list with reference photos of both plants and hardscape elements.
FOLLOW UP SERVICES
I can recommend contractors for installation or support your DIY approach with plant sourcing, furniture selection, and project coordination at an hourly rate. I'm also available on planting day to place plants and assist contractors, ensuring the design vision comes to life!
